Intro
Cookeville Regional Medical Center has a navigator program to facilitate patient care across multiple modalities. The nurse navigator is a personal resource for both patient and family.
We offer navigation services for both breast and lung cancer patients.
The primary role of a
navigator is to:
- Initiate communication with patients upon learning they have suspicious findings at a screening
- Guide patients through the healthcare system by assisting with access issues and helping them arrive prepared to ask the right questions.
- Connect patients to community and social support services
- Facilitate molecular testing for targeted therapies
- Facilitate referral to genetic counselor as needed
- Educate patients and families about the disease and treatment plans with written materials included
- Link patients to healthcare resources quickly
- Communicate with physicians and other members of the healthcare team
- Obtain patient referrals to community services for support
- Facilitate timely access to quality medical and psychosocial care
- Promote patient-focused care
- Connect patients and families to appropriate support groups
These services are offered to patients, families, and caregivers to expedite informed decision making and timely access to quality health care throughout all phases of cancer care at Cookeville Regional.
Breast health nurse navigator
Meet Amy Ayers, the breast health nurse navigator.
“My goal is to ease the process a patient with breast health issues encounters, from diagnosis to survivorship. I aim to promote consistent care and coordination each step of the patient’s journey by offering advocacy, education and support to the patient and their family. I will work with the physicians at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and the surrounding areas to ensure the patient has everything they need throughout this process.”

Lung health nurse navigator
Meet Beth Slatten, the lung health nurse navigator.
“A diagnosis of lung cancer can be overwhelming. In my role, I’m available to help patients who have been recently diagnosed, are already living with lung cancer or have had recurrence of the disease. I want to help make their journey as easy as possible.”
