Cookeville Regional Is Now a Primary Stroke Center

Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Heart Check mark for Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers

Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with stroke-related standards and requirements, including program management, the delivery of clinical care and performance improvement.

The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality, and this certification shows that CRMC has demonstrated the greatest level of commitment to care for stroke patients.

“With stroke being the number five cause of death and a leading cause of adult disability in the US, we know this is a need for our community and we want to educate the community on how important it is to recognize the signs and seek treatment immediately if they think they are having a stroke,” said Dr. Mark Tedford, neurohospitalist at Cookeville Regional. “Strokes affect people of all ages. We have seen strokes in teenagers up to people in their 90s right here at the medical center, and it can be devastating for that patient and their family. We are grateful to be a Primary Stroke Center and the recognition of the efforts of so many people at CRMC to improve the care that our stroke patients receive.”
