Cookeville Regional Medical Center proudly welcomes the region’s only fellowship trained and board certified primary care sports medicine physician, Derek Worley, MD, to its medical staff. Dr. Worley has joined the practice of Tier 1 Orthopedics located at 105 South Willow in Cookeville.
Dr. Worley is a native of the Upper Cumberland region, having grown up in nearby Livingston. He has experience treating athletes at various levels including pee-wee league, high school, collegiate, professional, and weekend warriors.
He attended the University of Tennessee where he majored in exercise science. Afterwards, he attended medical school at St. George’s University. Upon completion of medical school, he did a residency in internal medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. He then went on to complete a sports medicine fellowship with Atlantic Health System where he served as a fellow team physician for the New York Jets and Seton Hall University.
Since completion of training, Dr. Worley has served as a team physician for the University of Arkansas Razorbacks, University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Mocs, and numerous high schools. He specializes in management of sports injuries, fracture care, osteoarthritis management, and concussions. He is also trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound, allowing him to use these skills for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes.
