Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has been proactively working to plan for potential cases of COVID-19 for several weeks.

We ask that you partner with us as the weeks progress.

We are currently following the TN Department of Health (TDH) and CDC guidance for screening and testing.  Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever with cough or shortness of breath.

At this time, commercial testing is not yet available at CRMC. All testing decisions are based on the attached criteria and at the discretion of the TN Department of Health.

If you use LabCorp or Quest, a commercial test may be available for your office.

We ask that all medical staff and providers follow this guidance in order to avoid potential panic that can ensue in these types of outbreaks.

Updated coronavirus screening guidelines from the CDC state that if someone has traveled from China, Japan, South Korea, Iran, or Italy in the last 2 weeks, and has a fever, cough or shortness of breath, and is not in need of urgent medical care, they should first call their doctor or local health department to determine if testing is appropriate.

The same approach applies to those that have been in direct contact with someone who is known to have COVID-19 and have a fever or symptoms of respiratory illness. We encourage providers to screen patients at intake and by phone and rule out other common respiratory illnesses.

If you encounter a suspected case in your office, mask the patient (surgical mask) and put the patient in a room alone with the door closed.

If you feel strongly that your patient needs to be tested for Coronavirus and does not meet this guidance, please contact the TDH 24/7 provider hotline at 615-741-7247.  If it is decided that you should send the patient to us, please contact us (i.e. ER, Urgent Care) prior to sending them.

It is important to remember that as with most respiratory illnesses, most patients with Coronavirus have mild symptoms and can remain home when ill, cover their cough, use good hand hygiene and distance themselves from household members.

TDH also has a public hot-line available 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily at 877-857-2945 that you can share with your patients.
