Health and fitness fairs coming up

Building Healthier Communities is a core mission at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. One way to do that is through health and fitness fairs, which is an opportunity for people to come in and get necessary screenings.

Mark your calendars for April 26, 27 and 28 from 7-11 a.m. with one appointment every 15 minutes.

“These types of events allow us to offer screenings at an affordable cost all on your schedule,” said Wanda Richardson, Cookeville Regional Medical Center’s business development/workplace wellness manager.

Screenings include:

Blood pressure (free with any screening)

Oxygen saturation (free with any screening)

Bone density ($10)

Complete blood count ($10)

Pulmonary function test ($20)

Blood type ($15)

Cholesterol and lipid profile ($15)

Complete chemistry profile ($15)

Hemoglobin A1C ($15)

Prostate Specific Antigen ($15)

B-12 level ($25)

Folate level (folic acid) ($15)

Thyroid profile ($40)

Total and free testosterone level ($45)

Vitamin D level ($50)

Low dose lung CT screening (screening will be scheduled for a later date. Qualifying criteria and registration required) ($99)

Peripheral artery disease screening ($35)

Stroke screening/carotid artery ($45)

Abdominal aneurysm screening ($75)

Complete vascular package (all three tests) ($145)

These types of screenings are necessary to find any issues early before they become a problem.

Bone density screenings can find and treat osteoporosis and prevent fractures and disability.

A complete blood count, or CBC, can diagnose an infection. It counts the cells that make up your blood: red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.

A pulmonary function test is a lung test that shows how well they work. It is often used before surgery or other procedures in patients who have lung or heart problems, who are smokers or who have other health conditions. It is also used to assess treatment for asthma, emphysema and other chronic lung problems.

Knowing your cholesterol levels can prevent heart disease while a complete chemistry profile looks at your metabolism.

The hemoglobin A1C test looks at your average blood sugar levels over the past three months and is used to diagnose prediabetes and diabetes.

The Prostate Specific Antigen screening can detect prostate cancer by measuring the amount of PSA in your blood.
