Description:

The competent perioperative care technician is responsible for performing many aspects of basic patient care, including but not limited to, patient care assistance appropriate to age of the patient, transportation of the patients, supply and equipment maintenance, transportation of specimens and blood products to and from the department.  Assists surgical team members in the preparation and set-up of their rooms.  Performs housekeeping duties as assigned.

1. EDUCATION:  High School diploma or GED required.

2. EXPERIENCE:  Must possess skills and abilities to administer basic hands-on care to patients in a surgery hospital setting acquired through previous hospital experience, in-house training program or related health care experience preferred.

3. SKILLS:  Ability to read and write English.  Must be knowledgeable regarding basic medical terminology and be able to identify the many pieces of equipment used in the OR.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Detail oriented.  Able to work independently.  Ability to take direction.  Flexible ability to handle multiple priorities.  BLS annually.

Description:

This position is responsible for, under the direct or indirect supervision of a licensed physician, assessing patient’s surgical conditions, administering treatments under physician orders or in conformity with usual practice, assisting physician as directed intra-operatively.  This privilege does not include the practice of obtaining informed consent. Performs other duties as assigned. Staff must be able to demonstrate the skills and competency necessary to provide age-specific care to the age groups served in his/her assigned unit/department, including, but not limited to, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development over the life span of the individual demonstrating the skills necessary to communicate with patients, and provide a safe environment for the patient.

EDUCATION:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Surgical Technician training program. Current Certification as Surgical Technician

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of one-year experience as a Surgical Technician and graduate of an approved program.

SKILLS:  BLS Annually.
