Emergency Department

1.  Previous Emergency Department experience preferred.

2.  Basic Arrhythmia course upon hire or within 1 year (Exception:  Nurses with experience in patient populations requiring arrhythmia interpretation will be given the standard CRMC Basic Arrhythmia test and those scoring 85 or greater will not be required to attend Basic Arrhythmia.

3.  ACLS upon hire or within 1 year of hire

4.  PALS upon hire or within 2 years of hire

5.  Critical Care Course or CEN upon hire or within three years of hire (Exception (prior hire date of February 2015:   if greater than 5 years ED experience or if < 5 years and have obtained CEN no critical care course required).Effective February 2015: (Experienced emergency department nurses will be given the EDBKAT standardized test upon hire and those scoring 85 or greater will not be required to attend the Critical Care Course.)

6.  TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum) upon hire or within 2 years of hire

Description:

Patient Care Associate

This position is responsible for performing basic and advanced Nursing Assistant skills under the direct supervision of an RN/LPN according to established policies, procedures, and guidelines within the department and the Medical Center. 

1.  EDUCATION: High school graduate (or have minimum of GED).  CNA Certification preferred. CMA required at Inpatient Rehab.

2.  EXPERIENCE:  Prior experience in a hospital setting preferred.  No minimum required.

3.  SKILLS:  Able to read and write English.  Clinical skills to perform basic nursing care.  BLS current or within first 90 days of employment.

Unit Secretary

This position is responsible for all secretarial and receptionist duties and coordination of related activities of the nursing station, including coordination of critical communication between physicians, nursing, patients, families, and other health team members.  Position requires utilization of computer, verbal and written skills. 

1.   EDUCATION:  High school diploma (or GED).

2.   EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in a health care setting preferred. Basic computer skills.

3.   SKILLS: Familiarity with medical terminology preferred. Good verbal and written communication skills.  Able to read and write English.  Computer data entry.

Description:

This position is responsible for providing a wide range of social services in the Emergency Department in accordance with the hospital mission and objectives.  Services provided by Social Service include assisting patients and their families in addressing social, emotional, and economic issues associated with illness or injury.  Crisis intervention, discharge planning, continuity of care, financial assistance and referrals to community resources, while interacting with interdisciplinary team are some of the assigned duties.  Persons of all ages are served. This position is responsible for the contribution of quality care for this Emergency Department patient/family/significant others.  The Social Worker functions within established policies and procedures while providing for the psychological and psychosocial support of the patient, family, and/or significant others in the Emergency setting.  The social worker serves as a liaison between patient/family/significant other and the Emergency Department staff and physicians; promotes communication, provides for positive atmosphere, and encourages promotion of the Emergency Department and Cookeville Regional Medical Center to family, visitors, and other personnel.

 

1.         EDUCATION:     The position requires a bachelor’s degree in social work or an equivalent degree.  

2.         EXPERIENCE The position should have at least one year’s social work experience, preferably in health care.

3.         SKILLS: Must be able to deal with multiple tasks and with a variety of people, including department staff, patients, families, community resources, other hospital staff and physicians.  Must be able to work effectively with patients and families of all ages. Must be able to handle multiple deadlines in a busy environment. Must have the ability to learn complicated regulations and be able to access resources. Must be able to write legibly and communicate effectively and be able to perform certain computer functions.  Must be able to use deductive thinking and be able to use established counseling skills.

Description:

This position provides clinical support to professional staff for basic nursing care under the supervision of physicians, RNs, and LPNs. Assists with routine cleaning of equipment and environment. Responsible for supply inventory maintenance, stocking, and ordering with support and input from nursing staff. Assists with transporting patient per stretcher or wheelchair. Backup support for unit secretary during peak volumes and breaks.

 

EDUCATION: High school graduate (or have minimum of GED).

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, or Medical Assistant (MA).

EXPERIENCE: Prior experience in a hospital setting, preferably emergency services.
